Mikao Usui, a Samurai and scholar of the early 20th century, founded the Reiki discipline in the early 1900's. However, he left us with precious few instructions.
One should should learn and study the Emperor's poems, and one should follow the
Five Principles:
Just for today, do not anger,
Just for today, do not become anxious
Just for today, be grateful and give thanks for your many blessings
Just for today, do your work with diligence
Cause no harm to any living beings.
This is the prescription by which all Reiki practitioners abide, as in its simple precepts lies the path to enlightenment. Structurally, it acknowledges that change is progressive in its implementation. First, one must remove those things that cloud the mind, secondly one must recognize their sorroundings, then one must consciously engage with and act in the World and lastly having become aware of the Self and the Goodness of life, one's work will cause no harm.
Reiki is a sublime art, it is a soft power and does its work in an almost imperceptible manner. Reiki literally translates to Universal (Rei) Energy (Ki). It is like clean air. Our life force is subtly rebalanced and aligned, the things that should be in our life become, quietly, manifest. Toxins dissolve, removing energetic blockages and harmony is restored.
